Free multiband upward/downward compressor from Xfer Records. It's a standalone plugin version of that famous Ableton Live multiband dynamics preset that became a staple in electronic music production. Three bands — low, mid, high — each with independent compression depth control.
What makes OTT distinct is the combination of upward and downward compression. It squashes the loud stuff and brings up the quiet stuff simultaneously, which gives that hyper-present, in-your-face sound. There's a global depth knob that controls how aggressively the whole thing compresses, plus a time control that scales all the attack and release times together.
Became so widely used in dubstep and EDM that "OTT" basically turned into its own verb. People just say "put OTT on it" and everyone knows what that means.
Useful for making game sounds cut through a mix. That upward compression brings out subtle details in sound effects — good for making UI sounds feel crisp and present, or adding intensity to weapon and impact sounds. The depth knob makes it easy to dial in just the right amount. Be careful though, it can make things sound over-processed fast if you go too heavy.
