What it does

A free plate reverb from TAL Software (Togu Audio Line). Smooth, lush plate algorithm with a modulated tail that adds movement and warmth. Not trying to be realistic — it's going for that classic, musical plate reverb sound that works on everything from vocals to synths.

Has a diffuse section and a plate section that you can blend. The modulation on the tail prevents the metallic ringing that some plate algorithms suffer from. Pre-delay, decay, and a high-cut filter for darkening the reverb. Simple and effective.

TAL makes consistently good free plugins. This is one of their older ones but it still holds up.

Why it's useful for game dev

The plate reverb character works well for musical elements in games — menu music, cinematic moments, character themes. The smooth, non-realistic character sits nicely in a mix without drawing attention to itself. Quick to set up for adding space to sound effects too.
