The tape character is what sets it apart from clean digital delays. The repeats degrade naturally, losing high end and gaining a warm, saturated quality. The varispeed effect when changing delay time is musically useful for sound design and performance.
The degrading tape echo is great for creating atmospheric, lo-fi delay effects on game audio. The pitch warble when changing speed can generate interesting transition sounds. Useful for processing ambient textures or adding space to one-shot effects with character.
